📰 News & Discussions

Towards a Local-First Desktop | Julian Sparber & Tobias Bernard @ GUADEC 2026

"This talk introduces the newly formed Modal Collective, and the ongoing effort to bring local-first sync to the GNOME ecosystem. So far, this has mostly been focused around Reflection, a local-first collaborative notes app, easier APIs for third party apps, and GObject bindings for p2panda. This year it's being expanded with a prototype for a system sync service, which any app can use to easily get peer-to-peer connectivity. Julian and Tobias explain all the moving parts required to build an app with local-first collaboration, how it can be done today, what needs further work, and how you can get involved!"

LFM2.5-2.6B: Deploy Agents Everywhere

"Today, we release LFM2.5-2.6B, an agentic model that runs entirely on-device. It is small enough to run on a phone, fast enough to stay responsive on a CPU, and capable enough to power agentic workflows: planning, calling tools, and tackling multi-step tasks. Unlike agents that depend on cloud APIs, local agents give you free inference, low latency, and real privacy."

Unleashing On-Device AI with LiteRT and Flutter - Lu Wang & Erin Walsh | Fluttercon USA 2026

"Discover how to supercharge your Flutter apps with on-device AI using LiteRT! In this talk, Lu Wang and Erin Walsh demonstrate how to deploy on-device AI models seamlessly across multiple platforms, taking advantage of hardware acceleration for maximum efficiency."

Electric is joining Databricks

"By combining Electric’s sync and local execution with the scalability and capabilities of Lakebase, apps and agents get a supercharged Postgres stack for optimal fast, reactive development, local query execution at machine speed and deployment at scale, for workloads of any scale."

🛠️ Tools & Resources

Magnitude: Your fully local, private agent

"Magnitude runs the whole stack itself. The inference engine is part of the agent, so the models run inside it, right on your machine. Nothing to assemble or maintain."

✨ Apps

Yaps

"An AI app for voice dictation, transcription, and text-to-speech that runs entirely offline and on-device, with no server round-trip for the core function."

Lunaris: A writing workspace you can make your own

"Start with focused writing. Work offline, collaborate when you choose, and add only the extensions you need."

Tape Music Hub

"Tape Music Hub is a phone companion for the local library you already maintain. Your desktop stays as the hub; your phone gets the same folders, playlists, and tracks."

Sonara

"Sonara was built to reclaim ownership of local music libraries. In an era where streaming services dynamically delete tracks and compress audio, Sonara provides a pristine, high-fidelity engine to manage, sync, and play local audio files (MP3, FLAC, WAV) with zero telemetry or tracking."

Poddie: Text-based, local-first video & podcast editor

"Cut video or audio by deleting words — local, private, and free, all on your Mac."
