We built a health app with no server

"Oi Studios on shipping an iOS health app with no HTTP client anywhere in the codebase: HealthKit as the source, SwiftData on device, and a two-partition store where HealthKit-derived models stay permanently local while user-authored records optionally sync to the user's own CloudKit database. Also covers two CloudKit failures that only appear on a clean first launch, and the cost of running with almost no analytics."

LoFi/40 (Local-First) Community Meetup

LoFi/40 took place on August 25, 2026 with talks by Alex Cheema ("Local AI is good now"), Jose Luis Olivares Esteban ("Evidence Without Permission: Building a Post-Quantum Notary on Bitcoin") and Jacob Enrique (Jake) Uribe ("linXiv - Local-first tools for research, collaboration, and roadblocks to adoption")

A Local-First Agent for Private and Cost-Effective Knowledge Work | Perplexity

"Perplexity Portable Computer is a local-first agent. The entire stack runs locally by default. The model, harness, conversation, and trajectory all live on the user's machine. Work that needs the outside world, such as web search, connectors, or escalation to a stronger advisor model on the cloud, is invoked only when necessary and always gated by the user. Sensitive data therefore never leaves the device without permission, and local models carry no inference fee: the system is private and cost-effective by construction."

Eufy’s Latest Security System Is an All-Seeing, Local-First Camera Array

"The core of the system is a 'local AI agent' that processes everything on-device, including facial recognition and AI-based camera footage searches."

CoMaps: The Offline App That Guided Rescuers Without a Signal in the Venezuela Response

"How an offline app, built by volunteers, became a key tool for first respondents during the earthquake response in Venezuela." See also HN discussion.

🛠️ Tools & Resources

reflectdb

"Keep a server-side database in sync with any number of browser clients — offline-first, with optimistic local writes, automatic conflict resolution, and end-to-end type inference. Bring your own types and your own database."

Clinch: "Local-first Warp fork built for agent session management"

"Stay local-first. No telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporting, no account. Clinch collects nothing about you or your work, and the only thing it reaches for on its own is a once-daily-at-most update check against this repository—which you can turn off."

Flux

"Flux handles state sync, offline resilience, and Client Side caching in one engine so your backend only hears from your app when something actually needs to change."

✨ Apps

Postern

"A self-hosted, open-source gateway that connects your money, health, mail, calendar, contacts, and home to any AI agent you allow, through one MCP surface. Agents read from a local cache or fetch live from the source, never see your credentials, and work under revocable per-sector grants with every access logged. There is no LLM inside." - @nk3750

Minna

"Minna is a completely on-device research assistant. Your papers, results, assignments and lectures never have to leave your computer."

PrimeTask

"Your data lives on your device. No servers hold it, no telemetry phones home, no account is required to use any feature. Lock the app behind a PIN when you step away. Export to open JSON or CSV anytime. Take your data with you, forever."

Ferrow: A knowledge vault that acts.

"Plain Markdown in a folder you own. No background sync, no cloud copy, no telemetry — with the relay off, working with your vault makes no network call except to the model you connected."
